This will be a very busy term for Woodpeckers class, and sadly our last term as one!
The children have worked so hard at being a team - the splitting up will be hard; but I'm sure Year 5 are ready to step up to become Year 6.
In Literacy we will be reading a class novel called "I was a Rat" by Phillip Pullman. In Art we will be concentrating on our production of Grease which is on July 14th, for one night only, so don't miss out! We also have our Sports Day event, which is being held at the Julie Rose Stadium on June 17th. This should be great fun & we would encourage parents to come & cheer their children on.
Our class assembly is June 16th; please come along & take a look at what Year 6 got up to during their residential trip Kingswood, also come and see the amazing learning that has taken place in class. We have a great song for you as well!
Well, we have a busy term ahead of us! Year 6 will be busy, busy, busy getting ready for their SAT's. Year 5 will be upping their game, getting themselves ready for Year 6 in September.
A HUGE Thank You to Mrs Smith for running our Easter School for Year 6 pupils, during the Easter holiday. The amount of work the children achieved was amazing. It was a very successful, fun experience.
Also during the Easter holiday a space capsule landed in our classroom. This will be used as a quiet reading space.
(pictures to follow).
There will be a lot of new things happening this term, starting with a skipping workshop, followed by tennis for Year 5 & 6, which will happen every Thursday for PE.
We will have lots more science lessons and our literacy lessons will be based around a book called "There is a boy in the girls bathroom".
This term we have hit the ground running with our space topic. We had a planetarium in school on the first day of term;the children learned a lot of amazing facts.
We are making solar systems, discussing Aliens and planets, alongside making our own Solar Systems and Aliens.
We are learning about space, music and the climate in different countries and planets.
In PE we are doing Gymnastics and making great use of the apparatus.
We are working on pace and presentation this term.
A warm welcome back to Woodpeckers Class. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Happy New Year to each and every one of you.
This term we are learning about people. In our Science lessons we will be discussing healthy living and lifestyles, and how the body works. We will also be looking at the effects alcohol and drugs have on our bodies.
In PE we will learn to Bollywood dance, and introduce tag rugby to the class, and whole school.
This is just a small taster of some of the interesting things that I have planned for Woodpeckers Class!
November 2015 - December 2015
This year the children are expected to take a more mature and independent approach towards their learning. They will also be expected to take ownership of their own learning and personal belongings.
This Term is all about Festivals. We will be actively looking into festivals from around the world in all areas of our learning to include Mehndi clay making and Bollywood dancing.
The challenger troopers will be a huge part of our Term this term with the award ceremony on the 11th Dec. Please try to ensure that you are there.
In literacy we are reading the book entitled Ice Palace by Robert Swindles and using this story to develop our literacy skills with a special focus on grammar. This may also lead to a possible Class Trip.
Thank you for your continued support.

Woodpeckers Class have had an amazing week which included making our pottery Mendhi hands. They have gone off to be fired, in the kiln, we will then be glazing them.
The Class assembly was outstanding. Huge congratulations to the children for their wonderful singing.
The children are really starting to "look the part" in Challenger troop. What a team the Woodpeckers Class are
Certificates of the Week
Each week children are presented with a certificate, which celebrates their achievements throughout the week, in Learning, Reflect Values & Sport.
Our Yr 5/6 children have been given the opportunity to participate in the Uniformed Early Intervention Programme, which is run by the Challenger Group Company. It is a 6 week course, which will enable the children to develop skills that are essential to adult life, such as leadership, teamwork and resilience.
Through a number of activities children will develop self confidence and positive thinking. The will recognize the need to work with others and to collaborate to succeed.
Take a look at what Challenger Troop do & who they are!

Challenger Troop was fantastic today, we learnt about camouflage and how we needed to work as a team. We were shown how to communicate without talking using signs. We had a huge game of hide and seek in our woods.
Please remember that there will be presentation for parents on Friday the 11th Decemeber. All Welcome!
