Year 3/4 - Kestrels

Mr Bedford-Cooper and Ms Bloomsmar welcome you to Kestrels Class!

As we start the New Year we being our new topic – Viva America. A fascinating topic, with a huge scope and potential, that shall be explored through all areas of the curriculum.

In literacy we shall be looking at elements of American History to create our own persuasion texts based on the mass immigration to the US in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. We shall then be looking at Adventure and Mystery stories before trying to make our own exciting versions.

Maths shall continue to look at addition & subtraction, multiplication & division before moving onto more fractions & measurement. We shall looking at Black History, notably slavery, in our topic work including the British Empire & the Triangular Trade Route.

Science shall be looking at living things, mostly animal life; RE shall examine Incarnation and answering the question, ‘What is the Trinity?’

Spanish & Ukulele shall continue this term and Art & DT shall  be looking at patterns linked to our topic.

In Kestrels Class we always endeavour to make learning as interactive and dynamic as possible as I firmly believe that enjoyable learning is good learning. Furthermore, we shall always aim to challenge ourselves, as part of our growth mindset, in order to fully stretch our brains and grow our own learning power in order to become ‘the best me that I can be’. We pride ourselves on our inclusiveness, attitude to learning and our friendly classroom atmosphere.

We aim to open and transparent both with our learning and teaching so if there are any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or Ms Bloomsmar either in person, through the school or, if a parent, through Class Dojo.
