Year 3/4 - Kestrels

Mr Bedford-Cooper and Mrs Sorrell welcome you to Kestrels Class!

As we enter the final term of the year we start our final topic – Animals. An extremely broad topic we plan to explore using our own creativity and imagination, as well as science and fact.

In literacy we shall be looking at the novel ‘Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf’ by David Almond. A wonderful creative book that uses powerful imagery in an imaginary world that the gods have left unfinished. We shall use this to inform our reading and writing delving into the mysterious world, its wonders and dangers. Maths shall focus on fractions in all aspects – identification, addition & subtraction, fractions of amounts, equivalents, decimals and more. Science shall continue to look at Animals including Humans, including experiments to plan, record and analyse. RE shall move onto a new religion – Buddhism.

Spanish & Ukulele shall continue this term. Art & DT shall be starting to look at different forms of self-portrait including the works of Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Salivor Dali & Frida Kahlo. We shall then endeavour to create our own.

In Kestrels Class we always endeavour to make learning as interactive and dynamic as possible as I firmly believe that enjoyable learning is good learning. Furthermore, we shall always aim to challenge ourselves, as part of our growth mindset, in order to fully stretch our brains and grow our own learning power in order to become ‘the best me that I can be’. We pride ourselves on our inclusiveness, attitude to learning and our friendly classroom atmosphere.

Furthermore, we aim to open and transparent both with our learning and teaching so if there are any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or Mrs Sorrell either in person, through the school or, if a parent, through classdojo.
